To never stop their dances and songs, Colombians need power, both physical and spiritual. To restore physically, they can simply relax at home. But to enrich their spiritual well, they have to go to a farther place. In 25 kilometers from Valledupar, there is a place that Spanish called San Sebastian de Rabago. The name of the reserve, Nabusímake, is translated from the language of the local Indians as «the land where the Sun is born». Isn’t that inspiring?
At the height of 2 000 meters above sea level, deep forests hide a small village of Nabusímake. It is inhabited by indigenous people, the Arhuacos. This place is considered the energy center of the vicinity of Valledupar. According to a legend, the village is protected by strong charms that only let in those who come with good intentions and respect for the villagers. If you are admitted, you may rejoice in being a good person.
Before reaching the village, you will have to traverse a deep forest. The locals say that this route is the energy giving part. And really, the views are so picturesque, and the flower fragrance is so sweet, that you feel how your spiritual reserves are filled anew. Starting in Valledupar, you will notice that the closer you get to the village, the deeper is the forest and the greener are the plants.
Having passed 25 kilometers of mountains, you can enter the village area and get acquainted with its inhabitants and their culture. At the entrance, they conduct a special ritual for the guests.
The Nabusímake Village is located at the bank of the beautiful Sierra Nevada River and hosts about 40 thatched huts. Here, the Arhuacos live and work on their crafts. The characteristic feature of the locally handcrafted items is patterns. The villagers will explain to you what each pattern means. You can choose not just a beautiful blanket or bag as a souvenir, but an object with meaning.
