Wildlife Oasis in the City - Mangal das Garças

South America is famous for its unusual flora and fauna. To learn more about the local nature, you need to visit Mangal das Garças Ecological Park. It is located in Belém .

Mangal das Garças is a metropolis! The oasis of wildlife suits to the urban landscape. Its greenery, located on a background of modern buildings and paved streets, amazes.

Ecological Park was created by the government of Para in 2005. It is located on the outskirts of Belém and has an area of about 40 thousand square meters. Previously, the local territory was in poor condition, abandoned and flooded. Nowadays, it is one of the most picturesque city sites. 

By the way, during the construction, the trees that had previously grown on the territory were not destroyed. According to the original idea, the local environment needed to be adapted for many birds. And that came true! Here, you can see birds living throughout Para. Among them, there are even waterfowl because the park is located on the banks of the river. Interestingly, migratory birds also come here. From time to time, there are 50-60 herons, which are attracted by the local artificial lake.

Every year, the population of the ecological park is increasing. New species are regularly brought here. And local experts attentively watch them and make their stay comfortable.  

You need to visit the park to see many unusual species in real life. For example, there are flamingos, Julia butterfly, and a big white heron. Every day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can enjoy the feeding of animals. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, at 10 am, you can take a tour in Portuguese and English.
