The combination of different eras in one space creates an interesting effect, like in the Regional Historical Museum of the Argentinean city of Rio Cuarto. The museum is located in an old-style mansion and built in 1861. It combines two almost opposite components: on the one hand - the spirit of antiquity and historical flair, on the other-interactive technologies that help you learn more about the historical past of Rio Cuarto and the province.

Once, a military command post was located in a building that had previously belonged to the Villalba family, where plans were developed to expel the natives from this territory. At that time, the Southern Army was stationed in Rio Quarto, defending the borders from an Indian attack. From this house, General Ignacio Amilton Fotheringham directed the battles. 

The idea of establishing a Regional Historical Museum was created in 1945. Professor Alfredo Vituro started to collect exhibits. It is a matter of respect that the main collection consisted of donations from private individuals: these were gifts from citizens who wanted to support a good initiative and were happy to preserve the history of the city.

First, the Historical Museum was located in the City Theater, then it was transported to the City National College, and after that to the City Museum of Fine Arts. But its main home was the Villalba family mansion, which since 1980 and to this day houses the Historical Museum-the building of the former command of the border army.

The museum has a lot of interesting information. The history of the first settlers, the relations of the Spaniards and Indians, the coming of immigrants, and the construction of the railway are its feature.
