Metropolitan Museum

Among all the sights of New York, one of the largest art museums in the world is worth attention. It is the Metropolitan Museum. It was founded on April 13, 1870, by a group of American businessmen who loved art. 

The first exhibits were private collections of art lovers. In total, there were 174 works, including paintings of Van Dyck, Tiepolo, Poussin, and other artists. For the first time, the museum opened its doors in 1872. That time, it was located in the large hall of the dance school. Two years later, the construction of the main museum building was finished. After that, the museum got some more extensions. 

Now the museum has more than two million pieces of art. Many of them were given by private collectors. All the collections in the museum are divided by subject. The most interesting are American art, weapons and armor, drawings and lithographs, Medieval art.

It is important to visit the hall of ancient Egyptian art. Here you can find decorations, statues, tombs. Looking at it, you cannot stop being in awe of craftsmen. They made these earrings with ornaments or hairpins with gems manually. 

Climbing the stairs, you do not expect to see anything special. But entering inside, you understand why it is one of the best museums in the world. High ceilings, decorated with stucco, passages from one hall to another in the form of arches, columns... It amazes and shocks at one time. You can observe the museum without stopping for many days. It takes so much time to see all the collections. You have the impression that the entire history of the world is keeping here.
