Museo Sol del Niño

How about learning with fun? All children dream of it, but adults do not believe that dream. To make it real, you need to go to the Mexican city of Mexicali. Here, in 1998, Museo Sol del Niño opened its doors. Though its name is quite funny, it is a true interactive center for science and technology, culture, and environmental protection. Its purpose is to combine education and entertainment, make knowledge interesting for children and adults.

The museum is located next to the largest and oldest park of Mexicali “Vicente Guerrero” and the State Theater. The main building, “La Jabonera del Pacífico”, was built in 1925. Earlier, it was the storage of cotton seeds. The National Institute of Anthropology and History called it the cultural and historical heritage of the country. Now, it is under the protection of the state.

More than 260 exhibits of the museum tell about physics, chemistry, mathematics, scientific technology, and art. Each visitor can make scientific experiments, enlarge his knowledge, and feel like a scientist or artist.

A special pride of the museum is the avant-garde space using high technology “IMAX Room Digital Dome”. This is an area for more than 300 people with a huge digital screen and surround sound for watching films in 2D and 3D format. Here, you have an opportunity to be in the cosmos, virtually explore the environment and the human body, learn everything that is happening in the world of art and high technologies.

Museo Sol del Niño holds various entertaining and educational events, which are very popular. In the first year, more than 300 thousand people visited the museum. And since its opening, the number of visitors is more than 5 million.
