Panga Cliff is a steep cliff on the northern coast of Saaremaa, located near the village of the same name after which it was called. It is one of the most famous natural landmarks in the vicinity of the Estonian islands. It is as popular as the nearby Kaali, the meteorite crater group. The maximum height of the limestone cliff reaches 21.3 meters, and it spreads along 2.5 kilometers. It is the tallest, largest, and most scenic cliff on the shores of Saaremaa and Muhu islands. If you want to switch off from the daily hustle and bustle and feel like you are on the edge of the earth, then go there for a day or the whole weekend.

Like most similar natural landmarks in Estonia, Panga Cliff appeared due to the glacial melting. The process took place many thousands of years ago and extended for many years. But now we can enjoy this natural wonder and admire the incredible views of the surrounding landscape.

The cliff has three natural terraces, but one can’t be reached as it is hidden underwater. However, you can see it in rough weather. Storm waves crash against sea cliffs and create an unusual pattern on the water, clearly indicating that the seabed abruptly gets deeper a few tens of meters from the coast.

Today, the vicinity of Cliff Panga is a landscaped park with stunning seascape views and pine wood, where trees are oddly shaped due to the strong local winds. Everyone who thinks of visiting these places will find something to their liking. Here you can have a picnic in a specially equipped area or go on a large swing on one of the lawns near the cliff. You can learn how a sundial works and try to say what time it shows, or go down to the foot of the cliff to appreciate its size and grandeur from a totally different angle. And sure, take many colorful and atmospheric photos as keepsakes! In summer, a souvenir shop and a cafe are open on Cliff Panga, where you have a meal and buy small gifts for yourself and your near and dear ones.
