The so-cold Municipal House, the magnificent architectural complex of the early 20th century, where independence was declared and the constitution of former Czechoslovakia was adopted, stands on Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky) in the historical center of Prague. Previously, the building served as a royal palace, the official residence of the Czech kings of the 14th-15th centuries. This is evidenced by a memorial plaque installed at the corner of the building. Today, the impressive palace is open to the public. It hosts various concerts and cultural events.

The grandiose project was designed by architects Antonin Balsanek and Osvald Polivka in 1911. The best sculptors and artists of the Czech Republic were invited to decorate this architectural masterpiece. The luxurious Art Nouveau facade was crowned with a dome and the mosaic "Homage to Prague". Sketches for the mosaic were created by the renowned Czech artist Karel Spillar. The side wings were decorated with sculptural compositions by Ladislav Saloun: "The Degradation of the People" on one side and "The Resurrection of the People" on the other.

The solemn interior consists of several halls, each of which can claim to be a work of art. The central hall of the house is named after the great Czech composer Bedrich Smetana. Every year, the legendary Prague Spring Music Festival takes place within its walls. On both sides of the stage, there are allegorical statues, sculptural compositions "Czech Dance" and "My Homeland", again by Ladislav Saloun. The interior balconies are decorated with frescoes: "Music", "Dance", "Poetry", "Drama" by Karel Spillar.

In addition to the concert hall, the Municipal House comprises several galleries, a gambling room, and a restaurant serving traditional Czech food. All the rooms are accessible as part of a guided tour, during which experienced guides tell you the story of each fresco and sculpture. Then you can share your impressions of the house with your friends during a hearty lunch in the restaurant or over a cup of coffee in a cozy cafe. After that, you can walk around the historic Republic Square and buy souvenirs in the modern Palladium shopping mall.
