In 2002, one of the most provocative sex-themed museums in the world was opened in the heart of the Czech capital, just a few meters from the historic Old Town Square. The Prague Sex Machines Museum is the only museum in the world exhibiting only various mechanical devices, the so-called sex machines. The museum houses an exhibition of erotic devices designed to please the "gourmets of sexual pleasure".
From the very first day of its opening, the scandalous museum has been repeatedly criticized by the authorities. But that only made the unusual museum famous outside the Czech Republic and attracted a huge number of foreign tourists. Today, the three-story building houses 200 bizarre exhibits. Almost all of them are accompanied by waxworks for a better understanding of how to use them. Yeah, the machines are so outlandish that it's hard to immediately guess their purpose without a proper explanation. Some of them were created in the 16th century, and the Middle Ages are known for very freedom-loving mores and preferences.
The impressive collection includes unique exhibits, from belts for BDSM fans to bizarrely shaped tables designed for practitioners of making love in almost zero gravity or extremely original poses. There are all kinds of tools for artificial stimulation of both female and male genitals, primitive medieval vibrators. Many of the museum's exhibits can impress even frequent visitors of modern sex shops.
The museum also has anti-sexual gadgets. For example, chastity belts with sharp spikes and iron corsets dating from the 16th century. One of the most original exhibits is considered an electronic ring from 1920. It was created to prevent teenage masturbation: it notified parents at the first signs of an erection.
You don't have to be too liberated to go to the Sex Machines Museum. Think of it as a fascinating journey through the world history of human sexuality.
