In many cities of the Czech Republic, squares are decorated with thanksgiving columns. More often they are "plague pillars" erected after the epidemic, or Marian columns-in honor of the virgin Mary, or any other columns of honor.
The Queen of all columns of Bohemia and Moravia is the Baroque pillar of the Holy Trinity in the center of Olomouc. This column surprises even a modern person! And in the middle of the XVIII century, the Empress herself, Maria Theresa, came to the consecration of the stone miracle.
The 35-meter sculpture is the highest in the Czech Republic and the most skillful creation of the Central European Baroque. The column is included in the UNESCO world heritage list.
There is an unconventional detail in it that distinguishes it from other similar monuments. In the lower part, there is an entire chapel with almost temple decoration: 18 statues of saints, 12 figures of light-bearing angels, 6 reliefs with half-figures of the apostles, as well as a sculpture of the ascension of the Holy Theotokos, located in the central part of the column. It is crowned with a stone the grandeur of the gilded copper sculpture of the Holy Trinity.
The Olomouc column is a phenomenon of its time. At the same time, it is very patriotic: all its creators were natives of the city.
