Leventis Gallery (AGLG) is a magnificent art gallery in Nicosia. The gallery is relatively young. It was opened in 2014. A special architectural competition was held to build this building, which houses an extensive collection of art samples from Cypriot, Greek and European masters.
The original and modern design of the gallery, which takes into account all the necessary nuances for the preservation of exhibits, was developed by the authoritative British architectural company Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios in collaboration with the Cypriot firm J. & A. Philippou. They designed a modern art gallery with a restaurant and apartments for the A. Leventis Foundation (a private foundation that supports educational, cultural and philanthropic initiatives promoting Hellenic culture).
For several years now, the Leventis Gallery has proudly presented its three main collections: the Greek, the Parisian (collected by Anastasios G. Leventis himself), and the later Cypriot one. This project, which was conceived more than fifty years ago by the famous collector Anastasios G. Leventis, is now implemented by the A. G. Leventis Foundation.
Now the gallery is proud to present more than 800 examples of art spanning 400 years of European history. The Paris collection consists of works by prominent European artists of the 17th and 20th centuries, including El Greco, Paul Seignac, Rubens, Chagall, Monet, and Renoir. The Greek collection contains works by masters of the 19th-20th centuries. In the Cyprus collection, you can see the works of the first generation of Cypriot artists born between 1884 and 1930. Visitors are particularly impressed by the magnificent and original 17- meter-long painting with the telling and symbolic name "World of Cyprus" by the famous Cypriot artist Adamantios Diamantis.
Together, the three collections and the gallery serve as a fitting tribute to the splendor of the common European heritage. Each of the artists represented in the gallery occupies its unique place in art, in its history, regardless of territorial and national affiliation.
