The Museum of History and Cultural Heritage of Lakatamia (Μουσείο Ιστορίας και Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς Δήμου Λακατάμιας) is a small but very interesting and beautiful cultural center located next to the church of Agia Paraskevi.

The construction of the church, which became part of the exposition of the museum, had begun in 1897. And already five years later, in 1903, it had opened its doors to parishioners. It is noteworthy that it was one of the first temples in Lakatamia, which not only held services and festive celebrations. The church of Agia Paraskevi became a kind of cultural and educational center.

In 1906, it opened an elementary school, which was located in the building that now houses the museum. It existed until 1932, when the city had its first large public school.

There were also lectures for adults, and not only on religious topics. So the fact that the museum is now located here is a logical follow-up of the activities that the clergy of the old church were engaged in.

The main goal of the museum is to preserve and tell the history of its region. Today, there are items of everyday life, dating from the 18-20th centuries. Many of the exhibits are part of private collections, which the owners provide free of charge so that children and adults can learn more about the fascinating past of their native city.

The museum occupies five rooms in which the staff has tried to recreate in detail the interior of the homes of Cypriots at the turn of the 19-20th centuries. The bedroom, kitchen, and living room are furnished with authentic period furniture, decorative elements, and utensils of that time.

Another two rooms exhibit tools and textile machines that were used centuries ago to create beautiful fabrics.

The museum is small but very attractive because they have tried not just to place the exhibits, but to recreate the life that was typical of this region. That is why the expositions are easy to study and interesting.
