Conventionally, all territories of Austria can be divided into two parts: the world-known cities with a rich history and majestic architectural monuments and small provincial towns with old squares, town halls, cute churches and small private museums. Cozy Feldkirchen in Kärnten is exactly such a town. Its area is just 77.5 square km and its population is around 15 thousand people. It attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world with its music and art culture, but the annual festival of old music and city galleries with classical paintings and contemporary art are not the main attractions of these places.
Nature masterpieces of its vicinity attract much more than works of art. We are talking about numerous lakes of Carinthia, which these lands are famous for. The most popular tourist destination is considered picturesque Lake Flatschacher, which is located among green hills and low mountains, just a 5-minute drive from the town. Its water is incredibly warm, and its crystal purity is legendary. Another event also indicates it: every year, the major of one of the nearby towns goes to the shore of the lake to drink a sip of water. Thereby he shows how clean these lakes are. This is not a town legend. The state really takes care of the water quality in natural reserves. Modern drainage systems and rehabilitation methods have made it so that the water quality in the lakes of Austria can be compared with the acceptable drinking water values.
On the shore of Flatschacher, there is a small green meadow for vacation and rest, and in its forest area, there are perfectly equipped walking fitness-routes. The most popular is the path for relaxation therapy, which was named after a German naturopath and monk, Sebastian Kneipp. For those who like an active vacation, in this place, there are volleyball and football playgrounds, as well as modern tennis courts. Fans of fishing, too, will not be left disappointed, as the lake waters are full of various fish, starting with carp and perch to walleye and pike.
