The beauty of the Austrian Alps attracts not only those who like to do alpine skiing or snowboarding from a slope, but also those who prefer having a peaceful holiday close to nature. One of the unique eco-tourism places in Europe is considered the Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Reserve.
A valley with steep gorges, lots of streams, waterfalls and pure waters of Seewald lake seems to be a dream or a fairy-tale vision. Pristine mountain peaks, whose age is around two thousand years, rise above the terrain and protect this corner from cold winds.
For visitors, there are 250 kilometers of walking signposted paths. It is easy to navigate with their help, so you will not need guides. Special educational routes invite visitors to have a useful walk and get new knowledge. Bright cards will tell everything about the local flora and fauna. You can walk across flower and forest paths. Centuries-old trees with ivy and moss, dwarf birches, blue firs, larches, cedars, hills and glades covered with daisies, edelweiss, quarry, asters and roses. You can also go as a part of a tour group to the Gnadental natural reserve. There, you will be impressed by various orchids that spread all over the unique alpine landscape.
Bright houses and farms, which match the overall landscape smoothly, will be the main discovery for many people. This valley is not just a natural attraction, but a place where people try to live in harmony with nature. Here people produce food, extract energy, conduct scientific research, create educational projects, not disturbing the balance and not causing harm to the environment. The experiment was supported by UNESCO and is now considered to be one of the most promising projects for widespread implementation into everyday life.
If you want to spend some time in the reserve and, for example, try yourself as a farmer, then especially for such guests there are mini-hotels, where everyone can stay for several weeks. Once people are here, they get inspired by such a way of life; many of them move to this fascinating place to stay there forever.
