Any trip is not without local purchases. Even very practical tourists sometimes drop into shopping places to buy souvenirs for friends and family. And if you are an experienced shopaholic, then you will be welcome in the city of Chichicastenango or just in Chichi. Twice a week, all the fans flock there to spend their honest penny and treat themselves with something new. These days, the city becomes noisy and crowded, and the main local attraction is the largest city market in Central America.

As soon as you get there, everyone around you becomes your best friend and tries to please you. Greetings and suggestions are heard from all sides. It is hard to imagine that on other days it is a quiet and peaceful square where you can meet just a couple of tourists and a few walking locals.

The Chichi market was known in Guatemala even before the Spanish colonizers. Currently, it is still the main shopping center in Central America. There, you can buy absolutely everything including goats and pigs. The market area is divided into several sectors: grocery, textile, and souvenir products. There are also small tents where local chefs fry meat and corn cakes.

All this bright passion play culminates in a snow-white Catholic church. On its steps, the flower trade is also in full swing. Even though it is rare to see a flower market in tropical countries, everything there looks opportunely and incredibly beautiful. The only place near the square where you will not meet merchants and buyers is the churchyard. In the shade of its trees, you can take a breath and enjoy new trophies. Although it can take a whole day to explore the entire market, at the end of this adventure, you realize: "It was worth it!"
