Squares, Parks, Gardens

Limón, better known to the world as Puerto Limón, is not like the rest of the cities of Costa Rica. Its formation and development were largely influenced by the culture of the inhabitants of Jamaica, who worked for a long time on the construction of a railway near the city. They changed the life, language, religion, customs as well as dishes of the national cuisine of the indigenous peoples of the Republic. Every year, the city hosts a festival dedicated to the discovery of the local shores by Christopher Columbus. Usually, the carnival procession lasts only a few days, and the rest of the year residents of Limón spend in the central city park, which is one of the main attractions of this southern city.

Vargas Park is located near the port of Limón and is a generously sized green area. Its territory is home to many exotic trees and plants, and the natural pond perfectly complements the landscape design of the park. The crowns of some old trees have grown so widely that they form living arbors where you can hide from the rays of the scorching sun. The local older generation loves the park for its shady alleys, comfortable benches, and a summer stage that hosts dance nights on weekends. Tourists view its many sculptures and monuments like a monument in honor of the visit of Prime Minister of Jamaica Percival Noel James Patterson to Limón. And all children are attracted by sloths that live in the park. Both locals and families with children from all over the country come to see them. By the way, the local kids are well aware of all the secrets of sloths and will gladly arrange an excursion for just one dollar.
