What do you need to build a fort? The first settlers of Saint Vincent and Grenadines islands needed only of a small rock, stones, and a couple of cannons. Four hundred years ago, it was a strategic point, an armed fortress. Today, it is an unusual tourist site, combining delight and fear. 

Fort Duvernette was built in 1790 to protect the city of Kalliaka. The British decided to establish a fort after the French attacked St. Vincent. The enemy ships did not have identification colors and flags of the French army, and the locals decided that they were merchants. They were killed for such a mistake. The fort was built to prevent such situations. 

You will like the place, chosen by the British as an observation point, coming to the Fort Duvernette. The fort was built on a volcano in the Caribbean. It is not so easy to get to it. There is no coast, only a sheer cliff. Surprisingly, how people built something at the very top of it, lifting heavy materials and cannons. 

But the fort was built. Wooden stairs lead right from the pier. And here, you can have a thrill. From one side is a rock, from the other - a cliff. Coming to the peak, stepping on solid ground, be attentive and do not look down. Despite the beautiful nature and amazing views, it is very scary. 

At the very top are a small platform, walls of the former garrison, and cannons. Everything is left from a defensive and observation point of the British.
