Port Royal
Jamaica and surrounding
Harbors, Ports, Fjords, Quays
Harbors, Ports, Fjords, Quays

Wealth and vice were synonyms with the small town of Port Royal. Money, gold, and jewelry were brought in huge chests on ships with black flags. Now you can explore a part of the city. For the other part, you need special equipment, because the city has gone underwater.

Ancient stone buildings, docks, and forts ... Now you walk along them, admire the architecture and views of Port Royal. But previously, it was overflowed. Pirate ships, pirates, entertainment venues were everywhere. Thanks to pirates and their generosity, during the spree, the city was growing and developing. But suddenly, it fell into decay.

But the part gone underwater got a new life. Divers come here all the time, and we know why. Once you ride a boat with a transparent bottom, look at the small part of the underwater wonders, you will get a desire to put on a mask.

Streets, houses, ruins of temples, and pirate ships – this is in good condition. There is not enough oxygen in local waters, so the buildings are not oxidized and retain their shape for the joy of tourists. It seems that you are in Atlantis. All is covered with a bluish-green mysterious light. Sometimes, sunlight breaks the water and illuminates the streets of the flooded city. And shoals of small fish and colorful corals add something nice to this place.

Now Port Royal is a quiet fishing village where the ghosts of the past are still alive. The city is abandoned. Walking along the streets of this noisy and vibrant town, you can see locals. But there are a few of them, as well as tourists. Port Royal is safer than the central cities of Jamaica. Moreover, it is closer to the airport. Travelers stay there for one night and then move to other cities.
