Landing on a paradise white sand beach, many people do not even imagine that the dense jungle in a few meters from the board hides the frightening evidence of the Solomon Islands’ history. It is hard to imagine that 70-100 years ago the Skull Island was popular and considered as a place of worship.

In the 21st century, the century of technology, space flights, and the Internet, a huge number of human skulls neatly put together in one place seems to be odd. It is hard to believe that this place exists, and if it does, the skulls are not real.

But no, the Skull Island exists and is located close to the island of Lola. This is a small island in the Pacific Ocean, its terrible secret is covered by green plants. Coming through the thickets, moving the leaves aside you get to the place of one of the most sacred places on the Solomon Islands. There, on the stone pedestals are located the dozens or even hundreds of human skulls. Some of them have lashes marks, fractures, and wounds which could be the reason for death.

Recently, cannibalism and human sacrifice were the usual things on the Solomon Islands. There is a legend that all inhabitants over 70 years old knows exactly how human meat tastes like. Skull Island is a place of worship; people performed there the terrible for the Europeans rites.

Locals tell that people brought there the defeated enemies. The body was eaten, and the head was considered sacred because it was a source of strength and wisdom. People thought about it as a trophy. This place was sacred, and the skulls of chiefs and shamans were also taken there to honor their memory and hand the wisdom over.

The place is frightening and impressive. On the one hand, you understand that it is a history of wild tribes, who lived like that and considered it as a usual thing. But on the other – it gives the creeps when you imagine all the tortures and cruel rituals of ancient peoples.
