American Memorial Park

COM_SCATALOG_FIELD_DESCRIPTION

Second World War had an influence on every place of the earth, including a small archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. The Northern Mariana Islands also participated in the battle.

In the center of Saipan, you can find a huge Memorial Park. All 54 hectares is dedicated to the soldiers and locals, died in this place in 1944. In the center of the complex is located a flagpole with all the raised flags of the divisions and fleet of the United States of America.

Coming to the stone with the five thousand names of victims listed, the body covers with goosebumps. It happened in June 1944, when the American army came to conquer its territory from the Japanese people. The marine soldiers got to the island and started shooting. The fire did not stop for a minute. For most soldiers, that was the last battle.

In fact, the invasion of the Mariana Islands and the battles in Saipan can be considered as one of the most important battles in the Pacific Ocean. Five thousand died soldiers were not a vain thing. The Americans not only defeated the Japanese army but could deprive them of strategically important communication routes.

Looking to the names on the stone, you flinch because of the sound of bells. They beat, reminding of the war tragedy and honoring the memory of the dead.

You can learn more about this campaign or the Second World War in general by visiting the museum, located on the huge territory of the memorial complex. Among the exhibits is a large collection of military weapons, military uniforms worn by soldiers during the campaign. A separate room is dedicated to the battle in Saipan. The exhibition is multimedia. On the screens, you can see everything happening during that period.

The memorial and the park next to it are in excellent condition. It is pleasant to walk along the bright green grass, to relax a little after a rather sad exhibition.

Close to the memorial, there is the Mangrove Forest and the Pacific Ocean. Long, powerful twists of lianas entwine the trees and paths. In the 30-acre mangrove forest live many birds, some of them are on the brink of extinction.

There you can take a walk. A two-kilometer path leads from the memorial through the forest. Above, on the sides, you see the amazing views! After it, you can return to the park again. You can even come to a concert or festival. On the territory of Memorial Park, there is an amphitheater, where people show concerts or plays.
