Most of us are used to the fact that a zoo is a place where wild animals live in specially recreated conditions close to nature. But few people can assume that there are zoos where domestic or domesticated animals live.

It would seem that there is no need to look at the goats and ducks, they are already known by everyone. But how many residents of the metropolis have the opportunity to pet a calf or feed a guinea pig? The Hawkes Bay zoo has this option.

It was built in February 2004. Since then, it has been one of the main attractions of Hastings, attracting hundreds of visitors every day, both locals and tourists.

The Hawkes Bay zoo can be called a farmyard because there are many animals that most often live on the farm. And space itself is organized as a cozy village: signs, paths, everything is done so that visitors do not get lost and find the animals they want to see.

Children love to come to the zoo. After all, they can see pigs, sheep, calves, ostriches, alpacas, peacocks, turtles, and many other animals as closely as possible. Some of these animals can be fed and held under the control of zoo employees, as the animals can get tired of the attention of young curious visitors.

If guests of the zoo have a desire to help the staff, for example, to clean the cages or take a walk or comb the animals, then no one will refuse them. Volunteer activities are only welcome there as the territory of the zoo is large.

It is especially interesting to come to the zoo in the spring when there is a boom in the birth rate of new inhabitants. Where else can city dwellers see a newborn pig or feed a very tiny baby goat from a bottle? Of course, only at the Hawkes Bay Farmyard zoo.
