The Nauru State can be considered a sight itself. It is the smallest independent republic, the smallest island power, and the only country which does not have any official capital.
But even that tiny country has its interesting sights.
In the city of Yaren, you can see the beautiful complex of the Parliament House, the Administration building, and the main Police Station. They differ from the main construction and strike by their peculiarities. There are also two small museums with good military collections.
But it is better to explore the caves and the underground lake of Mokua Well, located close to the center of the so-called city and the airport, where all the guests of Yaren arrive.
Like the country, Lake Moqua Well is rather small, its area is only 0.002 square kilometers. But it is very deep – the depth of the lake is 2.5 meters on the coast and 5 meters in some places. That is a fresh lake, one of several on the planet. It is located underground, in a complex of caves, that is why it has a very beautiful color and high transparency, owing to the limestone layers where it is located.
For a long time, everyone could come to the lake. But in 2001 there was an accident: a drunk man fell to the lake and died. That is why, to prevent such situations, the authorities decided to install the fences along the perimeter of the lake.
To the lake, it is better to come during the ebb, because on other days the water level is rising, and it is uncomfortable to travel along the caves. Moreover, it is better to travel with a local guide: the caves are small and shallow, but it is rather hard to find the lake there.
