The great waterfall of Thac Bac is a highlight of Sa Pa and its vicinity. For many years it has attracted many tourists from all the corners of Vietnam and the whole world. It is not important at what time of the year you want to take a look at it. Hot summer or cold winter – the waterfall is always popular among travelers. Many people are stopped by the fact that its vicinity is considered the coldest place in the country during wintertime: a view of cold water frozen in cliffs at the height of 1800 meters above sea level is worth being a bit frozen!
Unlike other tourist attractions of Sa Pa, Thac Bac is located beyond the city, 12 kilometers away from its center. That makes it a serene and calm place. The only thing disturbing the peace is the noise of water, which fiercely flows from the 200-meter height under the longest pass of Vietnam – O Quy Ho.
Due to the significant height, conquering the waterfall will take lots of time and effort. However, on the way to it, you will have time to relax and enjoy a whole gallery of fascinating sceneries. On one side, there are great green forests. On another – vast endless fields. The nature of Sa Pa is rich with wonderful landscapes.
The territory near Thac Bac is equipped with special staircases, which allow tourists to easily climb and admire the waterfall from above. During climbing, you will not only see the silver flow from a close distance but also a breath-taking view of the whole of Sa Pa and its surrounding nature.
Not far from O Quy Ho pass, there is another impressive and similar attraction – the Love Waterfall. Thac Bac is powerful and majestic, while the Love Waterfall is calm and unhurried. This is a favorite place for couples who want to be alone with each other and, at the same time, take a rest in the fresh air.
