Gaziantep is one of the oldest cities in the world. That city was home to many peoples, so it remembers many different traditions. The Hittites, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Ottomans and many others left traces in Gaziantep. They built their houses and castles, were engaged in making art objects, cooked their traditional food. Judging by the fact that one of the biggest museums of cooking is located in Gaziantep, we can say that people cooked a lot there. This also can be explained by the position of the city: it is located not far from the famous Silk Road.

Traders came into Gaziantep: some of them stayed there till their death; others shared their knowledge and moved on. Centuries later all the cooking knowledge was gathered and systematized in an old building. This museum is probably one of the most astonishing places in the city.

You better come there when your stomach is full. The museum displays traditional dishes, recipes and tableware which was used for preparing the dishes. So you will not feel comfortable if the excursion will be interrupted by abdominal murmurs. In the museum, you will learn not only about the dishes which were cooked by ancient Turkish people during celebrations and ordinary days but also which products they preferred the most and why. There are used pots, pans and different types of plates that belong to different periods of the country's development.

Get ready to wipe the drool off your face! The next hall of the museum is unique. There you will find the dishes of the imperial and sultan cuisine. Different ingredients are placed near every dish. You can take a pen and write them down to cook a dish at home. By the way, it makes you feel extremely jealous when you see people wearing national clothes and eating the dishes with pleasure, even though those people are just mannequins.

Most of the tourists get hungry after they leave the museum. The administration of the museum took that into consideration: at the end, the tourists can choose to go to one of the restaurants, where the cookers prepare food right in front of the visitors.

The museum is extremely popular, so the city authorities decided to open a cooking school there.
