Erawan Caves
Bangkok and surrounding
Caves,  Unusual places
Caves,
Unusual places

Five hundred and fifty square kilometers of dense rainforest, dozens of fascinating waterfalls including the main landmark – the fantastic seven-level Erawan Falls, labyrinths of mysterious caves – all this is Erawan National Park, one of the most fabulous places in Thailand. It is better to plan a trip to this picturesque natural park in advance. There are plenty of remarkable points that are difficult to visit even in a month. While most tourists are singing enthusiastic odes to the famous waterfall, sophisticated travelers go to the secret caves mentioned in a dozen legends.

Numerous karst grottoes are real treasures of the national park. Each of them keeps its history. One of the most visited caves is Ta Duang. However, do not get your hopes up. To enjoy its pristine beauty and prehistoric rock paintings, you will have to be strong and patient. The cave is located on a mountain hill at an altitude of 800 meters. The path leading there is not easy at all. No matter how hard the road is, the beauty opening up to the eyes of travelers will pay off all the efforts. Images of trees and people on the cave walls appeared thousands of years ago. Just imagine who could touch them.

A beautiful stone garden with a giant stalactite resembling a Buddhist stupa greets visitors in the center of Phra That. Four immense halls of the cave are strewn with stalagmites and stalactites of bizarre forms reminding of something familiar.

According to the locals’ stories, huge bears once lived in the Mi cave. Today, you can see only a few unusual stone formations in the five halls of Mi. The main thing here is an astonishing atmosphere of appeasement and incredibly powerful acoustics like in another cave, Wang Badan.

The cave called Rua deserves particular attention. The small cave, 50 meters deep, became world-famous for ancient artifacts – giant sarcophagi in the form of boats made from tree trunks. The images of human heads on their lids make the cave look even more terrifying. It makes you feel like a character in a science fiction film.
