Sometimes we look at the interior and think: «A painting of Andy Warhol would be perfect here». We would like it to be real, but the original painting costs millions, and it is either in a museum or a private collection. There is only one way – the Chinese village of Dafen or the Oil Painting Village.
The Celestial Empire has long been known as a place where there is a copy of everything that man has ever invented. The field of art is no exception. Arriving at the village you will feel like in a real art gallery where the halls are the shops of local craftsmen.
The level of creativity there is off the scale. When there are so many people around you who masterfully wield a brush, so many masterpieces of world art, you want to create something by yourself. It seems that the muse is about to touch you on the shoulder, whisper something in your ear, and inspiration will come. Before that happens, take a walk in the courtyard.
It all started at the end of the 20th century with a small group of 20 artists and one businessman. They settled in an old and almost abandoned village with one shop and dilapidated houses. They began to draw custom paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, Salvador Dali, Van Gogh. They were bought by hotels, conference centers, business centers, and private collectors. Gradually, the number of residents grew to 300, and then to 8 thousand. Old houses in the village were demolished and new ones were built. In those houses, artists do not only live but also work. In one room there is a bedroom, in another – a kitchen, and in the third – a shop-workshop.
There you can buy a picture you like for a fairly reasonable price or you can become a model and take home your portrait in the manner of a great artist. In case if your interior lacks furniture, then there you can find beautiful examples of it. Besides, there are many beautiful locations for photos in Dafen. The village is very cozy.
