Lalbagh Fort is a gorgeous fortress made in the style of the Mughals. It is situated on the banks of the Buriganga River in the city of Dhaka. This is not only a beautiful monument of ancient architecture since the construction of Lalbagh Fort began at the end of the 17th century. It is also a landmark surrounded by myths and legends. This makes it even more attractive for people who come to this place for several centuries.

The construction of this fort started in 1678 thanks to Muhammad Azam Shah. He wanted to build a magnificent complex, which would include not only military structures, but also a family tomb, a mosque, and, of course, a gorgeous palace. Unfortunately, he did not have time to implement this idea, because his father recalled him back to his homeland.

His successor, Shaista Khan, came to finish this beautiful fort. Construction continued until, in 1684, the beautiful daughter of Shaista Khan, named Pari Bibi (Lady Fairy), died in the fort from a mysterious illness that no doctor could explain. The inconsolable father thought that this was the curse of this fort. So he decided not to finish the building and left it as it was. Above all, he left Lalbagh Fort in a hurry: he didn't want to hear about the place that was the cause of his grief.

Not all parts of the complex that the two rulers managed to build have survived to our time. It was believed that Lalbagh Fort consisted of three main buildings: the mosque, the tomb of the beautiful Pari Bibi, and the Diwan-i-Aam. But recent archaeological excavations have shown that this is far from true. There were fairly spacious residential apartments with a roof garden, utility buildings, and stables.

Today the most interesting place in Lalbagh Fort is the tomb of Lady Fairy. Eight spacious rooms surround a small central square located inside the building. This is the place where the sarcophagus of a beautiful girl is located. The walls of the hall are covered with white marble, and the rooms are decorated with glass tiles with floral ornaments.

The Diwan-i-Aam was the residence of the rulers. There were also Turkish baths in the same building. Although they are not fully restored, you can still admire how perfect the engineering designs of that time were.
